2 FAST 2 FURIOUS
[2003]
Paul Walker
; R 12A This sequel to Rob Cohen's original sees only Paul Walker return to the world of street racing, with Vin Diesel left sitting at home wondering why he isn't the next big thing everyone thought he would be. I have never quite managed to decide whether I actually like Rob Cohen as a director or not, but this film which is directed by John Singleton, actually nudges me one more notch towards disliking his predecessors style. I mean lets face it, he is the man responsible for bringing us 'XXX', which in my opinion is enough reason to dislike anyone. Like I said though, Cohen hasn't returned and Singleton seems to be at ease with picking up the trend where it left off. This film however, despite its efforts and in my opinion having the better director, isn't quite as good as the original. It does though still boast some very good race sequences. The main problem is the plot, it's about as thin as an anorexic Chinese gymnast. Sure it delivers the thrills, but through out the duration you can tell the film isn't built upon as sturdy material as the first film was. Looking at the movie though as a single entity and not as the follow up flick it is, it's certainly good fun, and as expected the Keanu Reeves voice double which is Paul Walker delivers where it matters. There is also plenty of eye candy, under the hood and sitting on it, and as that is such a fundamental aspect of the 'Fast and the Furious' formula the movie by default shouldn't disappoint. It is worth seeing if you liked the original, but it's by no means a must see.
