AMERICAN PIE : THE WEDDING [2003] Jason Biggs ; R 12A The top dog of gross out comedies returns to the fold, for one last helping of pie. Some of the less popular characters have been jettisoned this time, Chris Kleins 'Oz' the most noticeable of which, but for the most part, all the key players are present and accounted for. Basically, Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Allyson Hannigan) are getting married, which of course once again prompts a rollercoaster ride of compromising situations and comedic encounters. However, this episode has quite clearly thrown caution to the wind, and segue's from one ridiculously silly happenstance to the next, without seemingly caring whether or not the situations are at all plausible. So as a result, this addition to the 'American Pie' mythos could be perceived as having thrown away a small amount of its credibility, for the chance to create more opportunities for gags. To be perfectly honest though, I doubt no one cares about whether the film is believable or not, they're just in it for the laughs, and boy are there laughs. The movie hurtles along at a wonderfully entertaining pace, but still makes time to play upon the audiences knowledge of the characters without appearing cheap. The warmth and likeability of all the original stars (that remain) is as strong as ever, and the connection the movie manages to make with the audience, because of the obvious familiarity both parties have with the characters, makes the experience all the more pleasant. In comparison with the other two movies, 'American Pie : The Wedding' stands tall and firm, it's miles better than the 2nd one, and in my opinion at least equal if not greater than the original. A very enjoyable comedy this is indeed. If you liked the previous two, then this is not to be missed. If you didn't see the previous two, then this movie is the perfect introduction to the franchise. Top marks, for a top sequel.
