DUMB AND DUMBERER [2003] Eric Christian Olsen ; R 12A

This is the prequel to the 1994 box office smash 'Dumb and Dumber' which starred Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Unlike it's superbly funny predecessor this film (which features none of the original cast) is probably one of the worst films I have ever seen. The original movie was successful very much because of its combination of original comic acting and sharp dialogue, this movie, made 8 years after the original, has neither a sharp script or good comic acting. Part of the charm of Carrey's original was that it placed two fully grown adults, all be it slightly dim ones, into adult situations which made it funny to watch. But having high school kids do the same with again, their own age, just isn't half as amusing. However to give the movie a little credit, Eric Christian Olsen does quite a good job of mimicking Jim Carrey's original characters demeanour and inflections, but short of that the movie has about as much going for it as a hump back whale in the earlier eighties. If you were thinking about going to see this, then I urge you to think again. If you weren't planning to see this, then pat yourself on the back for having good movie sense. I on the other hand let my curiosity get the better of me and was forced to sit through 85 minutes of complete crap. 1/5 is being generous, enough said, next...
