SHANGHAI KNIGHTS [2002] Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson ; Rated 12A

Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson reunite for this martial arts buddy comedy, sequel to the smash 2000 hit 'Shanghai Noon'. Chan is back on form after a frankly poor 'The Tuxedo' and even though the fight scenes are no where near as intense as we all know he can make them (if in the East), they are still wonderfully imaginative and for the most part classic Chan. Then on the flip side of the coin there is Wilson, who is about as agile as an anvil (at least when compared to Chan), but what he lacks in fight he makes up for in mouth (exactly where Chan falls a bit short) and throws out flurries of his usual slap stick humour to keep you entertained when his partner isn't off kicking ass. All in all 'Shanghai Knights' is just as good as it's predecessor, and even though the movies general pacing could do with a tiny kick up the ass now and then, this flik makes for one solid piece of film making. The set pieces are full and detailed and the outdoor shots of London are very nicely tailored. Add that and a pretty sharp script to all of the above, and you've got yourself a very entertaining Friday night out. If you liked the first one, then you should definitely look this one up, and if you didn't then you're in a cinematic minority which should be persecuted for bad taste.
