THE HUNTED
[2003]
Tommy Lee Jones, Benicio Del
Toro ; R 15 Landing himself in a role not too dissimilar from that the one he played in 'The Fugitive' and 'U.S Marshals' Tommy Lee Jones picks up where 'Rambo' (the first one) left off. Though of course 'Jones isn't himself playing the role of the insane war hero, no, it is of course the ever watch able Benicio Del Toro. This chase thriller really has a lot going for it, its brutally sharp fight scenes, it's snappy direction and of course a very competent pair of leading actors, it's just it leans too much on previously worn out concepts. The ageing expert coming out of retirement thing being a prime example of how the film forgets to even think about trying to be original. However with the combination of great direction and a very well thought out script the film for the most part manages to cover up a lot of it's more damaging flaws. The film does though still contain a couple of very silly scenes, like the one near the end where both men stop in mid chase to fashion themselves a weapon completely from scratch, when really all the had to do was walk across the street and buy one. So yes, the film is a little worn conceptually and yes, the film has it's silly moments, but all in all it's a very nicely produced 114 minutes. Certainly worth a look.
